Its been over a week since I got back from my trip to Scotland and I’m still miserable about it being over.
It was a solo trip for me this time. I flew to Inverness, hired a car and then drove north via the Wester Ross coastal road (did I hear my fellow Game of Thrones fans cheer? Because I know, right?) and down to Kyle of Lochalsh to cross over to the Isle of Skye. Ah but not before taking a tiny detour a few miles east to Eilean Donan Castle so I could have a nerdy Highlander moment to myself.
And then across to Skye…
Sheep most definitely have the right of way in Skye. At any point an entire herd could just wander across your path, which is kind of daunting when you’re driving around windy cliff-side roads. There were a couple of times I had to break sharply to avoid a random sheep who had decided that he liked the look of other side of the road instead.
Unfortunately I didn’t time my day right so I was too late to visit Dunvegan Castle but I did manage to drive up to a view point for a photo.
These next two are from the Fairy Glen near Uig. Such a strange little place and worth waiting around for other tourists to leave just to take in the atmosphere. I half expected Bilbo Baggins to pop out of somewhere.
I have a few more photos to come from Skye and some from my visit to Glencoe and Mallaig which I will hopefully post later in the week. But right now I’m still sulking over having to come home.
